We are working closely with statewide operators to create an organization that will represent business aviation in Iowa and give it a platform to inform, educate and promote business aviation. If you work in or with business aviation in any capacity we would love to have you as a member and resource.
IBAA will be hosting our next Quarterly Luncheon on Wednesday, October 20th at the Iowa City Municipal Airport. Jet Air, Inc. has graciously offered to host our event. The luncheon starts at 11:30 for socializing with lunch following at 12:00 and then our speaker.
Our speaker will be Dr. Thomas Schnell of the University of Iowa's Operator Performance Laboratory (OPL). The OPL is a world-renowned flight test laboratory that conducts research on human-in-the-loop and intelligent autonomous systems to increase efficiency, inter-operability, and safety. The lab has been in operation for 21 years with 2,400 hours of flight test and 305-plus projects. OPL has 11 instrumented aircraft (six manned, five unmanned) and six flight simulators. Systems of particular interest include flight decks, airborne sensor systems, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) systems, and automotive user interface systems.
Dr. Schnell has been kind enough to offer a tour of the facility and discuss what how the OPL operates. This will be a very interesting tour of some very unique facilities here in the state of Iowa.
As with our previous luncheons this will be FREE to all and open to the public. We hope you can join us!
IBAA is proud to announce that we will be giving away 2, $1000 scholarships at the end of the 2021-2022 school year. These scholarships are available for students from any of the Iowa 2 or 4 year programs with aviation degree programs. More information and applications can be found on our Scholarships page.
Thank you to everyone who came out for our first in-person IBAA Safety Luncheon last month. It was agreed by all that in-person events are a much more conducive setting for getting together, shaking hands, sharing a meal, and learning a little something as well.
A big thanks to Satcom Direct for providing the meal and the presentation. A thanks as well to Elliott Aviation for donating the hangar.
We will be hosting our next event in October in Iowa City, more details to come!

This conference is specifically tailored to corporate pilots, maintenance professionals, FBOs, and flight departments.
