Aviation is a unique industry with a need for a highly skilled and professionally prepared workforce. The challenges to recruit, retain and ensure the sustainability of the business aviation industry in Iowa are of paramount importance. Furthermore, it is recognized that obtaining an Airline Transport Pilot certificate is difficult when not employed by an airline, while still required for many business aviation jobs in Iowa. Therefore, the Iowa Business Aviation Association (IBAA) established this scholarship in partnership with FlightSafety International to provide support to an aspiring aviator. One recipient will be chosen in the spring of 2024 to attend an ATP-CTP course at a FlightSafety International location.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Student Member of IBAA
  • Have reached/projected to reach ATP/R-ATP minimums prior to March 31, 2024
  • Potential to serve the aviation industry with great trust and responsibility.
  • Great character or professionalism, exceptional leadership ability, and involvement in aviation-related co-curricular activities or community service.

Process of Awarding the Scholarship:

Applicants will be required to submit the following before March 12, 2024:

  • Current resume or CV
  • Academic transcripts
  • An essay (maximum of 500 words), outlining how and why you chose aviation or aerospace as a career path, how holding an ATP certificate would help you, and your future career plans or goals
  • Letter(s) of recommendation (maximum 2) from IBAA member

The IBAA scholarship committee will meet in April to choose and notify the recipient.
